rules

Document 01· rev. 5· established May 2024· play.asteracraft.com

These rules exist so the history you write here is worth reading. Everything a nation does to another nation — betrayal, espionage, economic ruin, conquest — is politics, and politics is legal. What follows is where politics ends.

A

conduct & fair play

The non-negotiables. They apply everywhere, all the time.

A1
No cheating. Hacked clients and any mod granting a gameplay advantage are banned. Allowed: OptiFine, shaders, minimaps, Litematica. Banned: X-ray, Baritone, and hacked clients such as Impact and Inertia. Unsure about a mod? Open a ticket first.
A2
No exploiting bugs. Don't use glitches or bugs for personal gain. Rail, carpet, sand, and TNT duping — and similar farms — are the only exceptions.
A3
Don't threaten the server. Lag machines, DDoS attacks, and anything endangering server stability are strictly prohibited.
A4
Alts are declared, never weaponized. No alts during war; every alt must be reported to staff. Using an alt to dodge a ban brings severe punishment to the main account and every alt. Rules broken on an unreported alt escalate the penalty across all your accounts.
A5
No loopholes. Don't abuse your privileges or lawyer around the rules. The spirit counts, not just the letter.
B

staff

Held to a higher standard, not a lower one.

B1
No abuse of position. Doing so results in demotion and a ban.
B2
Log every action. Any ban, mute, or similar must be posted in #admin-logs.
B3
Duty protection. A staff member's items are protected while they are performing staff duties.
B4
No conflicts of interest. Staff may not take part in decisions concerning their own nation, or any decision that affects it.
B5
Moderator elections. If both owners agree, mod applications are announced and the full staff team votes on trial moderators.
C

chat & community

In-character rivalry is welcome. Cruelty to the person is not.

C1
No spam. Keep channels on-topic, especially Information and Gameplay.
C2
Ping sparingly. More than three pings in quick succession may be punished.
C3
No doxxing. Never reveal another player's personal information.
C4
No targeted harassment. Verbal, non-verbal, or in-game — including repeatedly killing one player just to ruin their experience.
C5
No real-world threats. Threats outside gameplay or roleplay are forbidden. Never encourage anyone to harm themselves.
C6
No advertising. No advertising other servers, including unsolicited DMs. Report DM advertising to the mod team.
C7
No discrimination or slurs. Racism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, and their slurs are banned in every context. Openly supporting groups promoting genocide, harassment, or discrimination is treated the same as the acts themselves.
C8
No NSFW. Not permitted anywhere.
D

nations

Something you build and announce, not a menu command.

D1
Founding is organic. Build a structure on land and announce your territorial claim in #nations.
D2
Leadership. Belongs to whoever announced the nation's creation, and transfers the same way — by public announcement.
D3
Declaring independence. Only a member may declare it, posted in #domestic-affairs. Defectors keep all territory they de facto control — leading a nation or region, holding a mayorship, or owning a building on the nation's land.
D4
Vassals. A vassal is a separate nation from its overlord, formed by choice or by treaty. An overlord may call a vassal into war. A vassal may declare independence anytime — but the overlord may answer with war. Vassalage may never be used to circumvent the rules.
E

land & borders

Land belongs to whoever can hold it. The Dynmap is the source of truth.

E1
Claiming. Territory can be claimed, bought, sold, or given away — but only belongs to a nation that can effectively assert dominance over it.
E2
Unclaimable territory. The Nether and the End are free to everyone (Nether portals excepted). Open sea is unprotected, except gulfs, lakes, internal waters, and maritime borders. Man-made islands may be claimed if visible on the Dynmap.
E3
Maritime borders. Every coastal nation holds 6 chunks (96 blocks) from shore. Where two overlap, the water belongs to whichever nation established itself first.
E4
Inactivity. A nation abandoned for two weeks is inactive; others may then settle the land.
F

gameplay

How griefing, killing, and looting work in peacetime.

F1
Griefing (peacetime). Edit claimed builds, structures, or signs only with permission from the leader, an owner, or the nation's internal system. Anyone may edit unprotected natural terrain — but irreversibly damaging it (lava casting, excessive TNT) is banned even on unclaimed land. Killing a tamed/named animal, or one penned on claimed land, counts as griefing. A build only counts in war if it is non-empty and functional.
F2
Killing. You may attack and kill another player even when not at war.
F3
Looting (peacetime). Up to 9 stacks per player per 24 hours. One stack = one item slot (so unstackables like potions can't be mass-looted); a shulker box = 1 stack plus every stack inside. Griefing to loot outside war is punished on top of the stacks taken.
G

war

Legal, public, and supervised. Begins with a declaration, ends with a signed treaty.

G1
Declaring war. Post a declaration in #international-affairs. You must be the leader (or have stated permission), hold land of your own, and make the other side aware. The defending leader has 24 hours to respond.
G2
Volunteers & mercenaries. Anyone may fight for another nation with the warring leader's permission (revocable anytime). You may not volunteer with no nation, or for two nations at once.
G3
Combat conduct. End crystals and respawn anchors are banned in war combat. No combat logging while both soldiers carry a war tag. Disputes require video evidence with Minecraft chat and system time visible; tampering (editing) may bring a ban and/or forced defeat.
G4
War griefing. Only to loot — chests, beds, shulkers, or to reach players — and only in conquered tiles or during an active battle.
G5
War looting. Soldiers may take as much as they want from an opponent who is online.
G6
Supervision. Every war is supervised by moderators.
Peace treaties
G7
Signing. A war ends only with a treaty, signed by the leaders of every nation that was at war.
G8
Voluntary treaties. Nations may end a war voluntarily; these are not staff-enforced.
G9
Automatic capitulation. Lose all territory and the winner may write a treaty the loser accepts by default, willingly or not.
G10
Enforceable terms. Only land transfer, disbanding, abandoning land, removing players, and vassalization are staff-enforced. Break a non-enforceable term and the war cooldown is cancelled — war may resume immediately (staff weigh whether the term was reasonable).
G11
War crimes. Severe, war-altering rule-breaking may force a nation to surrender — decided case by case.
G12
Annexation. Annexing land by treaty is staff-enforced, with no limit on how much.
G13
Mercenaries in treaties. Volunteers may be named and held accountable in peace treaties.
H

the war system

Wars are fought province by province, in supervised turns, until one side holds nothing left to lose.

Tile types

Metropolis
Big cities or industrial centers. Attackers absent over 15 minutes lose the battle.
Town
Small towns or individual bases. Attackers absent over 5 minutes lose.
Outpost
Isolated towers, roads, rails. If attackers are absent at any point, defenders win.
H1
Objective. Two nations fight to conquer each other's provinces ("tiles"). Lose every province and the war ends in the other side's victory.
H2
Oversight. An assigned moderator approves province maps and organizes attacks. Staff judge what counts as a settlement, applied consistently to all sides.
H3
Preparation. A mandatory 3-day prep period after declaration; both sides draw their province maps.
H4
Initiative & attacks. The attacker opens with 3 attacks. Use only 2 and the defender gains 1 next turn. Win battles to earn more attacks; lose all 3 and the enemy gets 3 on their turn.
H5
Respawning. Players must respawn in friendly tiles.
H6
Defending. Defenders may not break their own blocks during battle. Outside battle they may build barricades and traps — but not block doors.
H7
Tile status. Friendly — yours from the start: any action, respawn allowed. Conquered — won from the enemy: respawn and plunder, no extensive editing. In combat — no editing except bed/shulker griefing; plunder allowed, only defenders may respawn.
H8
Looting. Unrestricted in war — plunder freely. Only bed and shulker griefing are permitted as part of it.
